Background:Hair loss is a common problem that is commonly associated with men in their reproductive years. Propecia has emerged as a therapeutic option for hair loss in the early stages of post-menopausal women. This study aims to investigate the effects of finasteride 1 mg, a prescription drug, on serum testosterone, the most important sex hormone in the male population. Methods: We conducted a randomized, double-blind study that assessed the effects of finasteride on circulating levels of testosterone in male patients. Participants were evaluated in two different phases, one was a first-phase study, and the other was a second-phase study. Results: In the second-phase study, a significant decrease in testosterone levels was observed, which was associated with an increase in serum testosterone levels. However, finasteride did not change testosterone levels, although changes in serum levels of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) were observed. Conclusions: In a second-phase study, there was a significant decrease in testosterone levels in finasteride users, with a corresponding increase in SHBG levels. The observed decrease in testosterone in these patients was linked to changes in SHBG. The effect of finasteride on SHBG levels was also studied. Results: In the second-phase study, a significant decrease in SHBG levels was observed, which was associated with an increase in serum SHBG levels. The observed decrease in SHBG in finasteride users was linked to an increase in serum testosterone levels. Conclusions: In a second-phase study, there was a significant decrease in SHBG levels in finasteride users, with a corresponding increase in testosterone levels. The observed decrease in testosterone in finasteride users was linked to changes in SHBG levels. Conclusion: Propecia is a prescription drug that increases serum testosterone levels by blocking the 5-alpha reductase enzyme. This may reduce testosterone levels.
Introduction to the studyTreatment of male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) is often used as a first-line therapy for this condition. Hair loss is one of the most common causes of hair loss worldwide. It is estimated that 1.7 million men in the United States suffer from male pattern baldness. The global prevalence of male pattern baldness is increasing, and the prevalence of male pattern baldness is estimated to be approximately 50% to 100% of all men in their reproductive years.1 The most important male pattern baldness is male pattern hair loss (MPHL), which affects up to 1 in 10,000 men worldwide.2,3 Although MPHL is generally well-tolerated, 5-alpha reductase inhibitors such as finasteride can cause adverse effects on the male sex hormone, including sexual dysfunction and hair loss.6,7 The 5-alpha reductase inhibitor finasteride has been found to be a safe and effective treatment for MPHL. It is therefore recommended that patients with male pattern hair loss should take an oral 5-alpha reductase inhibitor such as finasteride to avoid the adverse effects of finasteride and any adverse effects on hair growth and development.
The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of finasteride 1 mg, a prescription drug, on circulating levels of testosterone in male patients. Secondary aim was to investigate the changes in serum SHBG levels during the treatment of MPHL and the effect of finasteride on SHBG levels.
The study was approved by the Institutional Ethics Committee, Faculty of Medicine, University of the Basque Country and the Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Autonoma de}\>Barcelona, Spain, and was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and Good Clinical Practice. Patients were included if they had had a diagnosis of male pattern hair loss (MPHL) for ≥ 1 year before the study, and if they had been diagnosed with male pattern hair loss between January 1999 and December 2020. Those who did not meet the criteria for the study were excluded. The study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and Good Clinical Practice, and the study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona. Informed consent was obtained from each subject before the enrollment. The study was registered on ClinicalTrials.gov ().
This was a double-blind, randomized, double-dummy, two-period, double-dose, crossover study. The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona.
Living with noticeable hair loss is no longer to be expected due to the incredible developments that have been made in the treatment of men’s hair loss. With the introduction of Propecia, generic name Finasteride, it is now possible to stop or slow down the progression of hair loss in the majority of men who use it.
Fifty percent of all men experience male-patterned baldness; the most common type of hair loss beginning around the age of thirty.
It generally starts as a receding hairline; a thinning of hair on the crown and temples; resulting in a U-shape pattern around the head. In some rare cases, a male may end up completely bald.
The condition is genetic; caused by an abundance of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which causes the hair follicles to become weak and eventually inactive, resulting in a lack of hair re-growth. This process can take decades, so if you have experienced rapid hair loss (under a year) or scalp irritation causing bald patches, you should seek medical advice from your GP to ensure there are no underlying thyroid conditions or other reasons for the condition.
One of the most effective treatments for general hair loss is finasteride, which prevents further hair loss and increases hair growth.
Approximately 60–80% of men who experience hair loss have at some time in their life been able to controlled and manage it, thus saving themselves, or their children hundreds of thousands of dollars a year [1]In addition, finasteride has been shown to help prevent the onset and growth of some male-pattern baldness, and may be an effective treatment for more benign types of hair loss, such as androgenetic alopecia [2].
Approximately 60–80% of men who experience hair loss have been cleared out of the body at some point in their lives [1].It is important to note that while finasteride prevents further hair loss and has other effects on hair growth, it does not cure or manage hair loss or any types of hair loss caused by other causes.
Fifty–40% of men who experience hair loss associated with male pattern baldness have been able to, such as androgenetic alopecia (an autoimmune condition caused by the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which causes the hair follicles to become weak and eventually inactive), and this information can be found on the Finasteride GP website at
www.finasterideguysparing.comApproximately 30–40% of men who experience hair loss associated with male baldness may benefit from or another treatment, such as or further treatments. The types of treatments available with regard to hair loss treatment include:
While Finasteride is a highly effective treatment for general hair loss, it may not be suitable for everyone, including men who have a pre-existing medical condition, such as a hormone imbalance, high levels of a man’s sex drive or have a genetic predisposition to further hair loss.

It works by reducing the levels of DHT in the body, which can help to reduce hair loss and promote new growth. Propecia is available in both prescription and over-the-counter forms, including pills, patches, and creams. While it is often prescribed for men who have trouble swallowing pills, Propecia is often used off-label for male pattern baldness treatment. The most commonly prescribed dose of Propecia is 1 mg per day for up to 6 months. If the dosage is not sufficient or the benefits are not strong enough, it may be suggested to use it at the same time. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
The dosage of Propecia is determined by your medical history and response to treatment. It is important to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor. This medication is usually taken orally with or without food. Consuming Propecia at the same time as the dosage of the medication may be necessary to avoid potential side effects.

Propecia is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor used to treat male pattern baldness. It works by blocking the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone associated with hair loss.
Propecia works by reducing DHT levels by blocking the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, an enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT. This conversion leads to increased levels of DHT and, in some cases, a temporary increase in hair growth.
The generic version of Propecia is available as a brand-name drug under the trade name Propecia. This medication is available in both oral (50mg, 90mg) and injectable (5mg) forms, depending on the strength and dose prescribed by your healthcare provider.
Propecia comes in both oral and injectable forms.
